Holy Hair Health!! Finally. Deep Conditioning Hair Treatments that Give You Moisture up the Wazoo!!!
For those who suffer from naturally dry hair, conditioning products can be a real life-saver. Sure, a gal could spend hundreds of dollars each year on salon remedies, but home remedies often prove to be even more effective–and affordable.
I have tried all kinds of things in my hair, and here is my list of the five best deep conditioning hair products:
1) Coconut Oil
Many of the best hair products are ones that you find in your kitchen cabinet. At the top of this list is coconut oil. Plain and simple coconut oil is by far the best remedy for dry hair.
I have tried all kinds of other kitchen ingredients in my hair: eggs, canola oil, avocado, mayonnaise, and even butter. Occasionally I will use these items, but they aren’t as effective as the items that have made this top five list.
If you’re interested in learning more about home remedies, I wrote another article which you can read here.
The most effective method of applying coconut oil is to dig it out with a spoon, distribute it over the hair shafts, and cover the hair with a shower cap. Let it soak in as long as you can stand it.
The biggest problem with using coconut oil in your hair is how to get it out. You’ll want to avoid getting too much of it down your drain, as this will cause clogging. Primitive as it sounds, a good washing with a garden hose outside will help get the bulk of it out before you get into the shower. Follow with a clarifying shampoo to help remove the excess oil.
2) Olive Oil or Almond Oil + Honey
The second most moisturizing hair treatment is oil and honey. Because it’s much easier to wash out than coconut oil, it is in many ways the ideal deep conditioning hair treatment.
I have tried many oils in my hair, and both olive and almond oil are the most effective moisturizers. For oil snobs, “extra virgin olive oil” and “sweet almond oil” that is food-grade quality are the best kinds to look for. There are many quality brands of oil and honey, so I won’t recommend any specific ones in this category.
I like to apply the oil directly to my hair before a shower and let it sit for as long as possible. It takes a good clarifying shampoo to rinse out the oil. I will apply honey after a shampooing and before a conditioner. Honey also helps clarify as well as provide nutrients to the hair shafts.
3) Organix Shampoos & Conditioners—all of them!
Of all non-home remedies, Organix shampoos and conditioners to the list of consumer packaged goods for intense hair care. They are by far the best daily hair products to use. When I use Organix shampoos and conditioners regularly, I don’t even need to do special hair treatments nearly as often.
While it’s true that ALL their products are amazing, there is still a hierarchy of effectiveness within the Organix brand family. I have not yet had the pleasure of trying out all the Organix shampoo and conditioner varieties. But of the ones I have tried, these are the ones that I have found to be the most moisturizing of all the products:
i. Organix Anti-Breakage Keratin
ii. Organix Smooth Hydration Moroccan Argon Oil and Shea Butter
iii. Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk
The Organix Hydrating Teatree Mint shampoo and conditioner products are pretty good, but not as moisturizing as the top three (keratin, Argon oil and coconut milk). Organix has come out with so many combinations that it’s hard to keep track of all the varieties!
What the package label says is true: the longer you let the Organix products soak into your hair, the better the deep conditioning will be.
Just as important as keeping your hair healthy is contributing to the health and sustainability of the planet. Organix doesn’t test its beauty products on animals.
4) Redken All Soft Heavy Cream
This product is a great deep conditioner that you can purchase. There are only two disadvantages to this product. First, the price is steep relative to other hair care products. Second, the product is not as easily accessible as the rest of the products on this list. You can only get Redken All Soft Heavy Cream in a spa or through a hair styling professional. The good news is that the results in your hair health can be worth the investment.
5) Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle
The tagline says it all: “Deeeeep Conditioning”. This Aussie product is another effective way to keep your hair in good health. Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle is a good alternative if you can’t afford Redken All Soft Heavy Cream. I use Aussie Deeeeep Conditioning after a regular round of shampoo and conditioner.
Like Organix, Aussie does not test its hair products on animals.
